While few people would imagine that a desert backwater could be transformed into a world-famous wine producing region in three decades, this is exactly what has happened in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Chen Deqi, a businessman from China's south, has spent 15 years here, during which time planted 5 million trees and established a 6,600-hectare vineyard.
